Days Between Dates Calculator

Our days between dates calculator gives you the total calendar days, working days (Monday to Friday), weekend days, and approximate weeks, months, and years between any two dates. Whether you're planning a project, counting down to a vacation, or calculating a deadline, this tool provides all the figures you need instantly.

Calendar Days vs. Working Days

Calendar days include every day of the week — weekdays and weekends alike. Working days (also called business days) only count Monday through Friday, excluding Saturday and Sunday. Knowing the distinction is critical in many contexts: legal contracts often specify "business days," shipping estimates may say "5–7 business days," and project timelines distinguish between elapsed time and actual work days.

Include or Exclude the End Date

The "include end date" checkbox controls whether the final day is counted. For example, if someone works from January 1 to January 5, they worked on all 5 days — so the end date should be included. However, if you're measuring a loan period from day 0 to day 30, you'd typically exclude the end date. Toggle this option to match your specific use case.

Business Use Cases

  • Project deadlines: Know exactly how many working days remain before a deliverable is due.
  • Payroll periods: Count the working days in a pay period accurately.
  • Contract terms: Verify that a "30 business day" SLA is being met.
  • Visa and travel planning: Many countries count allowable stay in calendar days.
  • Medical and legal notices: Statutory notice periods are often in business days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this calculator count public holidays?
No. Working days in this calculator are defined as Monday through Friday. Public holidays vary by country and region and are not automatically excluded. Manually subtract any holidays that fall in your range.
What does "include end date" mean?
When checked, the end date itself is counted as one of the days. For a period from Jan 1 to Jan 5 (inclusive), the count is 5. Without it, the count is 4 (the number of gaps between the dates).
How accurate is the "months" approximation?
The months figure uses 30.44 days per month (average calendar month length). It is an approximation. For exact calendar months, use the Time Duration Calculator.
Can I calculate days between historical dates?
Yes. The date picker supports years from 1900 onward for most browsers. Simply type the year directly into the input field if the calendar widget doesn't go back far enough.
What if I accidentally enter the end date before the start date?
The calculator automatically detects this and swaps the dates so the result is always a positive number of days.
