AI Deflation and Aggressive Price Cuts Squeeze Margins for Indian IT Firms

Entering the second quarter of FY27, quarterly results for Indian IT providers failed to ease market concerns, pointing instead to an intensifying industry headwind. IT firms are turning to deep discounting to poach clients from competitors, compounding the margin pressure already driven by sluggish enterprise technology budgets and AI-driven cost reductions.

Across industries, enterprises are scaling back contract values or renegotiating terms to free up capital for artificial intelligence initiatives.

A prime example is Google’s recent adjustment to its application development and engineering contract with HCLTech. Sources report that Google trimmed approximately $50 million from the original $200 million annual arrangement.

This reduction stems from an enterprise-wide cost optimization strategy, with Google applying similar spending cuts across several IT vendor agreements to redirect funds toward AI development.
